Blog Post 5: Idea Generation

For Reading The Image, we are assigned to identify a concept and produce our own media project. This can be presented in any form of imagery.

For this project, I would like to use portraiture and combine it with a theme that will emerge in the process. Following quite some thought, I will aim to produce a panel of images portraying a message or emotions, where the audience can connect and relate to the images.

The first ideas and inspiration are two projects by photographers Bertien van Manen and Jennifer Loeber, where they capture items or framed photos of departed relatives. Both projects are interesting since they capture belongings and framed memories of the ones we long for.

 ‘Left Behind’ by Jennifer Loeber

Another idea that struck me was the theme of social media being a drug, and how society does not accept this fact, although the majority of us are addicted to our devices.
