The theme that my eye settled on is Urban Jungle. Although at first it didn’t really make any sense to use this for my project, this phrase kept coming through in the analysis of my street photography tasks. This was most probably due to the densely built and busy town my street photography was based on.
The aim of this research and interpretation is to focus on my thought process in order to extract ideas and get inspired by researching the theme. My focus will also be in extracting an interesting aspect of the phrase without sticking to the common interpretations of Urban Jungle itself.
Urban
Definition
Urban is essentially anything within, relating to, or a characteristic of a town or city.
Interpretation and research
By definition, urban is referring to large towns or cities in general. Strictly speaking, for such a town or city to categorize as ‘Urban’ the town or city has a population of around 50,000 people.
Urban can be used to describe densely built areas, and suburbs the lesser built areas of the same town or city.
Fact- No towns or cities in Malta categorize as Urban. Although since practically 95% of Malta is built up and has a population of over half a million, and towns are in close proximity, this 95% of Malta is still considered as ‘Urban area’.
