Blog Post 3: Color Psychology

We had a lecture and a discussion with regards to color psychology, and when/how we tend to use different colors for different effects, moods, and emotions.

In brief, color psychology is a study of hues and tones used to stimulate certain human behavior, when we present visual media.

Below are a few pointers of the aspects related to a selection of colours:

Blue-

  • Cool & Calming
  • Symbolizes sky & Heaven

Yellow-

  • Happiness, optimism, inspiration, summer & warmth
  • New and Modern
  • Sunny feel, without excess brightness

Purple-

  • Stimulates imagination
  • Royalty, luxury & wealth
  • Wise, relaxing & Romantic

Red-

  • Confidence, love, energy & excitement
  • Most psychologically stimulating colour
  • Passionate, outgoing & courageous

Green-

  • Colour of nature
  • Calm, relaxing, joyful & filled with life
  • Balance, stability & persistence

Pink-

  • Perceived as feminine, innocent & romantic
  • Technically part of the red colour, but is a more tranquil colour
